History

Irrigation projects in Taiwan have a very long history, from private irrigation canals in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, to the period of Japanese rule and government efforts after Retrocession, irrigation organization has undergone several structural changes over time and in accordance with business needs.

  • During the period of Japanese rule, it was called “Irrigation Cooperative."
  • After Retrocession, it was renamed "Irrigation Coordination Association."
  • 1948, In order to develop agriculture and expand irrigation operations the government reorganized "Irrigation Coordination Associations" into "Irrigation Committees."
  • December 12, 1956, the Irrigation Committee of Changhua, Babao, Beidou and Tongyuan Canal irritation area under the Nantou Irrigation Committee are merged to establish the "Taiwan Province Changhua Irrigation Association."
  • 2013, It is renamed "Taiwan Changhua Irrigation Association."
  • The Irrigation Act was promulgated on July 22, 2020 and took effect on October 1, 2020. As a result, the Irrigation Association was restructured into the Management Office of the Irrigation Agency, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan. "Changhua Irrigation Association" was renamed "Changhua Management Office, Irrigation Agency, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan."
  • In line with the ongoing organizational restructuring, the office was renamed "Changhua Management Office Irrigation Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, Executive Yuan" on August 1, 2023 (I changed this so it is past tense)
