The main water source for the Tongyuan Canal is supplied from the north bank link channel of the Jiji Weir. The old intake served as a supplementary and backup water source. Due to the deepening of the Zhuoshui riverbed, it became difficult to draw water, leading to the relocation of the intake upstream in 1963. The intake and sediment discharge gates were improved in 2018, and remote-operated gates with monitoring facilities were added, enhancing the operational and maintenance efficiency of the facilities and improving the irrigation convenience for downstream agricultural areas.
